It is with sadness that we report the death of former Chapter 712 president and long-term board member Ralph Mains, who passed away at his home in La Porte, Texas on July 8th. Ralph was a founding member of the chapter and a strong supporter of the EAA Young Eagles Program. He had a life-long interest in aviation, and over the years he owned five aircraft including a Luscombe, a Grumman Traveler, and a Cessna 150. His favorite, however, was the one with which chapter members are most familiar, N710DH, an orange and white Wittman Tailwind that Ralph acquired in 1991. It was with this aircraft that he made so many of his Young Eagles flights, introducing hundreds of young people to aviation.
